Farsight Security is a commercial enterprise exclusively focused on the development of leading edge security solutions for ISPs, network and system security solution providers, governments, and medium to large enterprise. Leveraging our superior telemetry data collection and processing capabilities, we provide our clients with cloud-based, real-time network observability and reporting subscription-oriented solutions.
Farsight Security is looking for a Linux System Administrator with at least 3 years of experience. We’re a fast growing new company developing security products and we need to grow the team that cares for our infrastructure.
An ideal candidate will have a background in operating Linux servers in a lights-out production environment. Candidates should be familiar with all aspects of server administrating, including but not limited to the installation, configuration of basic system services like accounts and NTP, installation of open source software, package management, backups, and monitoring. A strong preference will be given to candidates who have experience with the automation of system administration tasks via a configuration management framework.
Experience installing and troubleshooting Debian Linux, and general knowledge of the Debian operating system and package release process/timeline.
Ability to download, configure, compile and install open source software.
Experience writing simple scripts for automation of system administration tasks.
Basic networking, including working in a multiple VLAN environment, and configuration of IPv6 on Linux servers.
Experiences with multiple virtualization technologies, including KVM and OpenVZ.
Experience writing documentation for other sysadmins and technical professionals.
Candidates with the following skills will be preferred:
Experience with a configuration management framework, like Saltstack, Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
Experience with monitoring software such as Nagios, Munin, Collectd, or Cacti.
Ability to code in Bash, Perl, Python, or C.
Experience with data center environments, and the planning of power and cooling.
Experience with FreeBSD.
Experience with ZFS.
Candidates near Palo Alto California or Ashburn Virginia will be given preference. Minimal travel is required with trips several times a year to visit various colocation facilities. Candidates should be comfortable working in a colocation facility, including lifting servers into and out of racks and working with basic hand tools.
